Changing lines (counted from the bottom): 1, 4, 5.

What to read

Three changing lines: read the judgments of the original and the resulting hexagram; the original is the main one. (Rule set out by Zhu Xi in the Yixue qimeng.)

Judgment of hexagram 1 乾

元亨。利貞。

Khien (represents) what is great and originating, penetrating, advantageous, correct and firm.

Judgment of hexagram 18 蠱

元亨。利涉大川。先甲三日,後甲三日。

Kû indicates great progress and success (to him who deals properly with the condition represented by it). There will be advantage in (efforts like that of) crossing the great stream. (He should weigh well, however, the events of) three days before the turning point, and those (to be done) three days after it.

The changing lines of hexagram 1

LineChineseLegge
1潛龍勿用。In the first (or lowest) line, undivided, (we see its subject as) the dragon lying hid (in the deep). It is not the time for active doing.
4或躍在淵,无咎。In the fourth line, undivided, (we see its subject as the dragon looking) as if he were leaping up, but still in the deep. There will be no mistake.
5飛龍在天,利見大人。In the fifth line, undivided, (we see its subject as) the dragon on the wing in the sky. It will be advantageous to meet with the great man.
