Changing line (counted from the bottom): 1.

What to read

One changing line: read the text of that line in the original hexagram. (Rule set out by Zhu Xi in the Yixue qimeng.)

Hexagram 11 泰, line 1

拔茅茹以其彙,征吉。

The first line, undivided, suggests the idea of grass pulled up, and bringing with it other stalks with whose roots it is connected. Advance (on the part of its subject) will be fortunate.

The two hexagrams

Hexagram 11 泰 — judgment

小往大來,吉亨。

In Thâi (we see) the little gone and the great come. (It indicates that) there will be good fortune, with progress and success.

Hexagram 46 升 — judgment

元亨,用見大人,勿恤,南征吉。

Shăng indicates that (under its conditions) there will be great progress and success. Seeking by (the qualities implied in it) to meet with the great man, its subject need have no anxiety. Advance to the south will be fortunate.
