Changing lines (counted from the bottom): 1, 3, 6.

What to read

Three changing lines: read the judgments of the original and the resulting hexagram; the original is the main one. (Rule set out by Zhu Xi in the Yixue qimeng.)

Judgment of hexagram 14 大有

元亨。

Tâ Yû indicates that, (under the circumstances which it implies), there will be great progress and success.

Judgment of hexagram 40 解

利西南,无所往,其來復吉。有攸往,夙吉。

In (the state indicated by) Kieh advantage will be found in the south-west. If no (further) operations be called for, there will be good fortune in coming back (to the old conditions). If some operations be called for, there will be good fortune in the early conducting of them.

The changing lines of hexagram 14

LineChineseLegge
1无交害,匪咎,艱則无咎。In the first line, undivided, there is no approach to what is injurious, and there is no error. Let there be a realisation of the difficulty (and danger of the position), and there will be no error (to the end).
3公用亨于天子,小人弗克。The third line, undivided, shows us a feudal prince presenting his offerings to the Son of Heaven. A small man would be unequal (to such a duty).
6自天佑之,吉无不利。The topmost line, undivided, shows its subject with help accorded to him from Heaven. There will be good fortune, advantage in every respect.
