Hexagram 24 復 changing to hexagram 39 蹇
Changing lines (counted from the bottom): 1, 3, 5.
What to read
Three changing lines: read the judgments of the original and the resulting hexagram; the original is the main one. (Rule set out by Zhu Xi in the Yixue qimeng.)
Judgment of hexagram 24
Fû indicates that there will be free course and progress (in what it denotes). (The subject of it) finds no one to distress him in his exits and entrances; friends come to him, and no error is committed. He will return and repeat his (proper) course. In seven days comes his return. There will be advantage in whatever direction movement is made.
Judgment of hexagram 39
In (the state indicated Kien advantage will be found in the south-west, and the contrary in the north-east. It will be advantageous (also) to meet with the great man. (In these circumstances), with firmness and correctness, there will be good fortune.

The changing lines of hexagram 24
| Line | Chinese | Legge |
|---|---|---|
| The first line, undivided, shows its subject returning (from an error) of no great extent, which would not proceed to anything requiring repentance. There will be great good fortune. |
| The third line, divided, shows one who has made repeated returns. The position is perilous, but there will be no error. |
| The fifth line, divided, shows the noble return of its subject. There will be no ground for repentance. |
