Hexagram 5 需 changing to hexagram 47 困
Changing lines (counted from the bottom): 1, 3, 4.
What to read
Three changing lines: read the judgments of the original and the resulting hexagram; the original is the main one. (Rule set out by Zhu Xi in the Yixue qimeng.)
Judgment of hexagram 5
Hsü intimates that, with the sincerity which is declared in it, there will be brilliant success. With firmness there will be good fortune; and it will be advantageous to cross the great stream.
Judgment of hexagram 47
In (the condition denoted by) Khwăn there may (yet be) progress and success. For the firm and correct, the (really) great man, there will be good fortune. He will fall into no error. If he make speeches, his words cannot be made good.

The changing lines of hexagram 5
| Line | Chinese | Legge |
|---|---|---|
| The first line, undivided, shows its subject waiting in the distant border. It will be well for him constantly to maintain (the purpose thus shown), in which case there will be no error. |
| The third line, undivided, shows its subject in the mud (close by the stream). He thereby invites the approach of injury. |
| The fourth line, divided, shows its subject waiting in (the place of) blood. But he will get out of the cavern. |
